Dear SBA faculty,

Dear SBA faculty,

In the first place I would like to thank all of you who attended the faculty meeting of this past Wednesday. As I indicated to those present, one of the goals of the School of Business for the new academic year, and one I set for myself, was to evaluate and assess the School’s organizational structure.

It gives me great pleasure to report to you that the Faculty Senate, in its meeting yesterday, approved my recommendation for a new structure of the School of Business, to take effect with the beginning of the academic year, 2003-04. This structure is consistent with our student enrollment, size of faculty, and existing concentrations in the School of Business. The approved structure provides for the establishment of five departments and appointment of corresponding heads. The individuals I have selected to head these departments are identified below:

1. Department of Economics & Finance   Spyros Hadjidakis

2. Department of Management & MIS    Angeliki Kokkinaki

3. Department of Marketing    Dimitris Vrontis*

4. Department of Hotel & Tourism    Yiannis Kouis

5. Department of Accounting and   Petros Lois

Banking

*Because Dr. Demetris Vrontis, Head of the Marketing Department, will join us in January, an interim head will be appointed to serve until then.

New and Vocational programs: These are allocated in the above SBA structure as follows:

  • European Studies will be part of Economics, with coordinator appointment at the discretion of the chair, and approval of the dean and executive council.

  • International Business will become part of Management, with coordinator approval at the discretion of the chair, and approval of the dean, and executive council.

  • Human Resources is an integral part of Management.

  • Insurance will become part of Accounting with Marios Christou program coordinator.

  • Office Administration will become part of Management, with Mary Aniftou program coordinator. The expectation will be for its improvement and upgrade in the immediate future into a 3- or 4-year program.

  • Culinary Arts will become part of Hotel and Tourism, with George Kyprianou program coordinator.

  • The Aesthetics & Beauty will be allocated to the School of Science and Engineering

I am aware that under the new structure some of you may be teaching in two different departmental programs. I would recommend that you consult with the appropriate Departmental Heads in determining (for administrative purposes) the department of your choice.

In the next few weeks, Department Heads will be in touch with you to set up a meeting to address departmental goals and other issues of departmental concern.

I count on your cooperation for a smooth transition into the new structure of the School of Business. Furthermore, I rely on your support to enhance the visibility and image of the School of Business in the financial and business community.

Best Regards,

Manolis Roussakis
